Description |
Ledger owned by Franklin Amos Keniston to "track the odd jobs he did in the area". Attached to the ledger is the following explanation by James McBain, Jr.: Franklin Amos Keniston (b. Oct. 27, 1865, d. Nov. 6, 1908), son of William Amos Keniston of Lovell Maine, was a farmer, carpenter & contractor. When he was 18 years of age, he lifted a heft none of the loggers could lift; it injured his back so he never was well again. He suffered from heart trouble and abscesses, but worked when able. He married Bertha Gammon (b. Sept. 1, 1875, d. 1961) in Biddeford, ME, Dec. 8, 1892. They owned the Hillside Farm on the Old Waterford Road just above Fern Drive. She ended up after his passing raising six children one on the Farm and some in Bethel as a matron at Gould Academy. In 1929 the farm burned as the result of a barn fire. The property was then bought by one of her son's, Frank Earle Keniston (b. Oct. 6, 1896, d. Dec. 2, 1957) who in 1952 rebuilt a log cabin on the farm house foundation. His mother, Bertha, passed this ledger book on to Earle (as he was known). The book was then inherited by his daughter Virginia Belle (Keniston) McBain (B. Aug. 28, 1920, d. Nov. 10, 2010). With her passage this book is being passed on by her family to the Lovell Historical Society along with other artifacts that will help support their mission." Located in Business Ledgers, Box 6. |
