Description |
The Preston and Ida Charles house, before it burned. Written on the copy is: "This house sat across the road from the VFW Hall in Lovell. Preston and Ida Charles lived here when it burned." 2 copies in file. The photo was used in the publication "The Lovell News" with the following caption: "Preston L. (1866-1956) and Ida (Farrington) (1874-1937) Charles lived in the above house, which sat across the road from the VFW Hall. While living there, the house burned to the ground. In one of Sumner Kimball’s later journals the fire is mentioned as occuring on August 10, 1921 at 5 a.m. with the following entry: 'Preston Charles buildings burned with some stock and he also burned in face.' This was Ida Charles’s last visit to Lovell, as she died the following Spring." |
