Description |
Gerry's Mill in Lovell Village. The photo was used in the publication "The Lovell News" with the following caption: "The first mills on the Kezar River in Lovell Village were built in 1826. A dam was constructed which allowed the river to back up to form the mill pond. Logs were collected in the pond and a sluiceway allowed them to pass one at a time. Below the dam was a saw mill, a grist mill and a carding mill. After World War I, John Gerry (1861-1935) purchased the saw mill from the Dupont Company, which had used the facility to produce ammunition boxes. The mill was swept away during a flood on March 17, 1953." |
