The following caption accompanied this photo at the Fall Harvest event: "Among early colonists the apple orchard was an integral part of every homestead, not only for food but also for drink. Hard cider was the national drink, being served at every meal. Like most rural towns, Lovell had many homemade cider mills and even into the 1900's most town families had a barrel or two of cider in the basement." |
